Err, What?

Felicia
Decapitated by a Model

Twiggy: I think she's very beautiful. I don't like this photograph this week.

Miss J: You're so used to moving, that when you're dead, you're just that: capital D-E-A-D, dead.

Nigel: All the other girls managed to have some sort of spark even in this sort of morbid situation. I think I look at you in this picture, and you actually just look dead. One of the simplest things, like acting dead, can be the most challenging. The problem is that you didn't do anything. You just gave up and thought that that was being dead.

I found that whole series to be disturbing. In what way is violence pretty?

"When you act dead you actually look like you're dead, therefore you are a terrible model. Can't you be a more dynamic corpse?"

All of these people are batshit. I've worked with fashion people and they're not exactly paragons of mental health. There was a fashion spread in some local rag a few years back, 7x7 or San Francisco Magazine or something, with the title "Apres Rape Chic". I am not kidding. Pictures of girls sprawled in alleyways with blood on their thighs. This is supposed to make me want to buy a Dolce and Gabbana jacket why, exactly?

yeah, that's what i -really- don't understand. at least with the people who're you know doing it as part of a TV show or movie, i get the cynical rationale: you're selling tickets to drooling fanboyz, screw the wimminz, this shit sells.

but if you're actually trying to SELL THE PRODUCT TO WOMEN...

yeah, exactly. "oh, kickass! i wanna be just like her!" ?!?

shrug. maybe that shit is so expensive they really only have to sell one copy to make a profit, and they already have the batshit client lined up, so don't care?

and yeah, i read Devil Wears Prada. (and saw the treacly watered-down movie). i totally believe that level of insanity is par for the course.
