My other Hoo-Haa is a BlogRoll

Reading up about this whole blogroll atrios huffiness cuffle that may be a frackus or something I am left with one teensy tiny suggestion for Atrios in mind that I think everyone else is, hmmm, I dunno, unwilling or unable to say though they're probably all thinking it:

Get rid of the comment sections at eschaton meester black, really.

Having a blogroll didn't really seem to matter one way or another, but as long as those threads exist in which 500+ people say "FRIST!!!!11!!", I am still fully justified in laughing and pointing to Atrios whenever someone tells bloggers that they need to learn to write better to go up that A list, B list, C list Hut! ranking system.

See also Markos Moulitsa, John Avorosis, Jane Hamsher, Wonkette or Trexy-poo for altenative examples of this phenomenon.

Possessing of an A List status has not even got any apparent correlative relationship with good writing, or informed writing, or even particularly informative writing (Skippy is the exception that proves the rule in that case), however, A List status does somewhat seem to have a causitive relationship to people declaring mediocre, bad and terrible writers who spend their entire time copying and pasting from WaPo and other parts of the MSM and making passe attempts at snark, "good writers".

I swear, every year I hear someone tell people that good writing is neccesary for high status blogging, and yet year after year after year I've seen no evidence to back up this bizarre rumor.

Again I ask: Where For Art Though Reality Based Community? Are we liberal bloggers really so vain as to not see the plank in our own eyes?

*smacks reader on the head with a bamboo cane* Yes! Obviously, Duh.

Nicely said, R. Mildred. And yeah those big comment sections with all their weird parlor games and clique politics are totally useless to me.

I suppose the phenomenon is pretty universal to capitalism though: the top of the market always claims meritocratic supremacy at some sort of esoteric craft that others simply don't grok. Because obviously once you're on top, you see markets as perfectly-informed fair-and-level socially-conscious fields of commerce.

Personally I don't read any celebrity-name blogs anymore. And yeah in the blog-world Atrios and Markos are simply celebrities who turn internet heads with as much predictable substance as Anna Nicole Smith..."If you wanna be famous, learn to write as well as fabulous meeee!"

I like the smaller, fiesty blogs where people still say what they want, not what they are expected to say.

I've never been seriously considered for a Koufax, although I've always considered myself one of the best writers on the Blogosphere.

But would winning a Koufax elevate my station in life? Not one bit. So, fuck 'em.

Thanks for the linkee.

I like their smaller comments sections, that feel more like conversations and less like a hundred people yelling.

Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now. Keep it up!
And according to this article, I totally agree with your opinion, but only this time! :)
